The Shack: Part II

Posted by rufeo on Apr 10, 2009 in God, work

I wrote a post several months ago about a book I read called “The Shack.”¬† Let me give a quick recap.

The story is about a man who learns to forgive his daughter’s murder, forgive his father, and renew his relationship with God.¬† The novel contains many doctrinal errors, and I caution anyone who read the book to be firmly grounded in their doctrine before reading the book.

So, I was at work today and I was opening with a girl who says she is a Christian.¬† She attends a liberal church somewhat faithfully, but she does not live a separated Christ-like life.¬† She asked me if I had ever read “The Shack” and I told her yes.¬† When she asked me what I thought I told her that it was doctrinally inaccurate and really wasn’t worth reading.

She then informed me that the author of the book came and spoke at her church.¬† She said that what he said sounded somewhat weird… as if he didn’t believe in God, and then the next statement he did.¬† She said she sat in church wondering why the pastor had invited him to speak.¬† I suppose he was very persuasive, because in the end she wants to by the book… even though she doesn’t agree with everything he said.

I pray she doesn’t read it; she already has things in her life she needs to deal with. “The Shack” would only make things worse.

Workaholic

Posted by rufeo on Apr 2, 2009 in Life, work

So I feel like a workaholic this week!¬† I’ve closed three nights in a row all of the shifts were at least seven and half hours.¬† I have today off and I open on Friday and Saturday… those are both eight hour shifts.

I had an interesting day yesterday.¬† I remembered why I hate closing three days in a row… while being a full-time student.¬†¬† I made a customer mad… he called me a liar.¬† Oh he made me mad!¬† I wanted to talk back to him!¬† Instead I opted to go to the back and cool off.¬† I have come to two conclusions about customer.

1. Regular customer are kind of creepy

2. Customers are fickle

Nightmare becomes Reality

Posted by rufeo on Mar 27, 2009 in Life, work

Where should I begin this story?  Well, first, I am Obsessive Compulsive when it comes to my wake-up alarm.  I check it at least five times before I go to bed.  Is is set for the right hour? AM or PM? is the volume high enough? etc.,

I worked this morning from 6-2 which means my alarm was set to go off at 5am.¬† So, this morning I am lying in bed “hmmm, I wonder what time it is.”¬† “I checked my alarm last night and it hasn’t gone off yet.”¬† “Let met just make sure.”¬† So I get up and walk across the room to my dresser to pick up my phone.¬† … “where is my phone?”¬† “Oh NO!” “PHONE!!!!”¬† So, I ran frantically to the kitchen to find a clock¬† “6:22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”¬† “NO!!!!!!!”¬† “WHERE IS MY PHONE!!!”¬† … It was in my bed, under the covers!!!!!! :( ¬† “I’m supposed to be at work, and I have the key to get in!¬† somebody is waiting out in the cold!¬† Oh no!”¬† I text my manager “just woke up.¬† running to work”¬† No lie! I ran out of the dorm.

So, I make to to work, and guess what.¬† My opener isn’t there!!!¬† She thought she worked later in the day and didn’t open.¬† So finally, we both are at work and have 20 minutes to get the store ready to open!¬† Praise God we made it!

But my story isn’t finished!

The GM was supposed to come in today at 8am. She lives kind of far away and needs to take the 210E to get to Pomona.  If you have heard any traffic reports this morning you heard about the major accident on the 210E that caused two fatalities, well she had to sit in that traffic.  Two hours after she was supposed to be at Subway she finally made it!

So I don’t know how in the world it was possible, but all three of us were late!¬† We all had our own issuse, but it made for a very intersting morning.

Midterms, Missions Intensive, and Spring Break

Posted by rufeo on Mar 20, 2009 in Life, work

Mid terms was last week.  I had four midterms and two projects due.  I think I did ok on everything.

This past week was Missions Intensive.  Our Teacher was Bro. Jim Smith, who is an Associate Missions Director for the BBFI and a former missionary to Ecuador.

I have more Subway stories!¬† I won’t bore you with them though, but let‚Äôs just say that they know how to keep me busy.

This week is SPRING BREAK!!!!!¬† I’m not going home but am staying in LA to work and get lots of homework done.¬† ;) ¬† Hopefully sometime during the week I will be able to update everyone one how productive I am being on my homework.

by the way… what do you think of my new sight?¬† the name? ¬†the theme?

$5 Footlongs

Posted by rufeo on Feb 19, 2009 in Life, work

Yes that‚Äôs right, $5 footlongs are back.¬† :( ¬† I know everybody loves it, but sometimes being in charge stinks.¬† Should I really have that much stress?¬† Last night wasn’t horrible… but it wasn’t a breeze either.¬† When I got there the back was a mess (as usual).¬† Only this time I had like no bread… and the bread wasn’t¬†thawed yet either.¬† Thankfully, the only bread I ran out of during the entire evening was Jalape√±o.

The best part about last night was the people I was working with. :D … you have to love coworkers.

So. I was closing with a guy (the only boy that works at Subway… poor guy)¬† and he happens to be a shift lead too.¬† That being said, it is easy to work with him because he knows what needs to be done.¬† My third person was a girl who constantly seems to have an attitude.¬† I don’t think she likes it when I tell her what to do.¬† Well, the funny thing is that she REALLY likes the guy. :) ¬† No lie!¬† She came to work with her make-up all done!¬† She tries to act really sweet and flirt with him… while at the same time throwing attitude at customers and me!¬† The thing is that he has a girlfriend and he really can’t stand the coworker. Poor girl… she doesn’t even realize, but she tries so hard. After she left, I told him that she acts completely differently when he was there, and he just rolled his eyes and complained about her attitude.
